
The forces of globalization, suburbanization, and other national trends have radically altered Wilmington's economy. Consequently, the City government’s role in economic
development has drastically expanded over the years. Join us for the Wilmington Historical Society’s May meeting which will focus on understanding how these trends played out in Wilmington, and how the city government is evolving – for better or for worse – to address them and promote new economic development.
Born and raised in Wilmington, Mr. Kevin McGonegal has a distinguished mix of public and private sector experience in the city. Having served for 13 years in senior positions for three Wilmington mayors, McGonegal has spent the last 30 working in commercial Real Estate brokerage and currently serves on the Board of Downtown Visions, part of the city’s business improvement district. A prolific author on local history, his articles have been published in Delaware Today, the Delaware Historical Society and Town
Square Delaware.
Benjamin is a city researcher and business consultant from New York City. He became passionate about Wilmington economic development and policy during his time studying social entrepreneurship at UD. As a co-founder of the Wilmington Historical Society, Benjamin focuses his research and presentations on real estate investment, crime & safety, education, and economic development.Â
